Crisis/support phone lines

  • Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) – Australia’s only free, private and confidential telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged 5–25.
  • Lifeline Australia (13 11 14) – Crisis support and suicide prevention helpline for adults. Also offers online chat services.
  • 1800 Respect (1800 737 732) – Family Violence and Sexual Assault helpline. Offers telephone and online counselling, and can also assist you to link in with local services.

State-based sexual assault organisations

  • Australian Capital Territory Canberra Rape Crisis Centre. Provides support to men, women and children who have experienced sexual assault.
  • New South Wales Rape Crisis – Provides telephone and online crisis counselling for anyone in New South Wales who has experienced or is at risk of sexual assault,and their non-offending supporters. The website also contains links to local sexual assault centres throughout the state.
  • Northern Territory Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) – services located in Darwin, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Alice Springs to provide support to adults and children who have been sexually assaulted, recently or many years ago.

  • South AustraliaRespond SA. An information hub that provides information and resources for people who have been affected by childhood sexual abuse.
  • Tasmania (north and north-west) Laurel House. Provides therapeutic services and support for people who have experienced recent or past sexual abuse/assault.
  • Tasmania (south)Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS). Includes counselling and crisis support.
  • Western Australia (under age 18) George Jones Child Advocacy Centre in Perth. Doctors, police, child protection workers, psychologists and child and family advocates form a multi-disciplinary team to provide services to care for all the needs of a child or young person who has been abused, and their family.
  • Western Australia Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC). Provides services to males and females aged 13 and over who have experienced sexual abuse/assault recently or in the past.
